Description
Protein phosphatase 1 regulatory (PPP1R) gene family (also known as PP1-interacting proteins, or PIPs) direct the substrate specificity of protein phosphatase 1 catalytic (PPP1C) subunits. The large number of PPP1Rs reflects the wide substrate range of the serine/threonine phosphatase holoenzymes. In humans, the PP1-interacting proteins are ubiquitously expressed with an exceptional diversity found in the brain, testis and white blood cells. Examples of members in the protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunits gene family (PPP1R gene family) include PPP1R1A, PPP1R1B and PPP1R26. PPP1R26 (also known as KIAA0649) shares significant similarity with the collagen VII alpha-1 chain precursor. KIAA0649 mRNA is widely expressed in human multiple tissues and cell lines
