Description
Oxidation resistance 1 (OXR1) plays an antioxidant role in eukaryotic organisms, including insects. OXR1 contains three conserved domains: LysM, GRAM, and TLDc. The gene encodes at least six transcripts, including some that only consist of the C-terminal TLDc domain. The human OXR1 gene belongs to a class of genes with conserved functions that protect cells from reactive oxygen species (ROS). Oxidation resistance 1 (OXR1) and its downstream target genes have a pivotal role in defense against oxidative stress. The gene was found using a screen of a human cDNA library by its ability to suppress the spontaneous mutator phenotype of an E Coli mutH nth strain. OXR1 participates in protecting larval silkworms from oxidative stress and bacterial infection through the Jun kinase (JNK) pathway
