Description
NXNL2 (Nucleoredoxin Like 2) is located on human chromosome 9q22.1. An important paralog of this gene is NXN. The NXNL2 (also known as RDCVF2; RdCVF2L; C9orf121) gene is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, C.elegans, and frog. 195 organisms have orthologs with human gene NXNL2. NXNL2 may be involved in the maintenance of both the function and the viability of sensory neurons, including photoreceptors and olfactory neurons. In the mouse lacking Nxnl2, the gene encoding RdCVF2, the progressive decline of the visual performance of the cones in parallel with their degeneration, arises due to the loss of trophic support from RdCVF2. NXNL2 is associated with some diseases, including Scalp-Ear-Nipple Syndrome and Congenital Stationary Night Blindness
