Description
Nemp1 (also known as TMEM194A), an inner nuclear membrane (INM) protein, which is expressed in the anterior neural plate in Xenopus. Nemp1 contains an evolutionarily conserved region A within its transmembrane domains (TMs) and region B within its C-terminal region, but does not contain any known domains. Nemp1 is required in oocytes of primordial follicles, which reside in an environment with high mechanical tension. Loss of high cortical tension can lead to loss of primordial follicles, and too much tension can inhibit follicle progression.
