Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme H7 (UbcH7, also known as Ube2L3), located at chromosome 22q11.2, is a critical player in double-strand break (DSB) repair. UBE2L3 is a ubiquitin-conjugating protein belonging to the E2 family that consists of 153 amino acid residues. The human UBE2L3 gene encodes the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme UbcH7, demonstrated to participate in the ubiquitination of p53, c-Fos, and NF-kappaB in vitro. UbcH7 regulates both the steady-state and replicative stress-induced ubiquitination and proteasome-dependent degradation of the tumor suppressor p53-binding protein 1 (53BP1).
