Description
PCDH17, encoding protocadherin 17, is a frequently methylated and downregulated tumor suppressor gene (TSG) in gastric and colorectal cancers. PCDH17 functions as a tumor suppressor inhibiting Wnt/beta-catenin signaling and metastasis in breast cancer but is frequently methylated in primary tumors which could be a potential biomarker. Protocadherin17 (PCDH17) is frequently silenced by promoter methylation in human cancers, including clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). PCDH17 plays a tumor suppressor role in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). PCDH17 methylation may be a tumor-specific event and can be used as an epigenetic biomarker for NPC. PCDH17, one of the nonclustered delta2-protocadherin family members, is enriched along corticobasal ganglia synapses in a zone-specific manner during synaptogenesis and regulates presynaptic assembly in these synapses
