Description
The exocyst is an octameric protein complex that is implicated in the tethering of secretory vesicles to the plasma membrane prior to SNARE-mediated fusion. The exocyst complex comprises eight subunits: Sec3, Sec5, Sec6, Sec8, Sec10, Sec15, Exo70 and Exo84. It was first identified in the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae by genetic and biochemical approaches. SEC15L1 is a subunit of the exocyst, a multisubunit complex first discovered for its requirement in the yeast secretory pathway.
