ZBTB7A, also known as FBI-1/LRF, belongs to the POZ/BTB and Kruppel (POK) family of transcription factors. ZBTB7A plays diverse roles in many cellular processes including differentiation and development. These physiological processes include regulation of erythrocyte maturation, B/T cell differentiation, adipogenesis, and thymic insulin expression affecting consequently insulin self-tolerance. LRF/ZBTB7A interacts with or regulates many different binding partners, forming a complex network of downstream pathways. LRF/ZBTB7A is an oncogene and is overexpressed in several human cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), hepatocellular carcinoma, prostate, ovarian, breast and gastric cancers, glioma, sarcomas, colorectal cancer, and renal carcinoma.
