Description

MECOM gene, also known as EVI, encodes a transcriptional regulator involved in hematopoiesis, apoptosis, development and proliferation. In blood system, MECOM is considered an oncogene, but in solid tumors it has both oncogenic and tumor suppressor activities. The MECOM gene encoding a zinc finger protein that functions as a transcription factor, was located on chromosome 3q26, and rearrangements of MECOM often cause its overexpression in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). MECOM encodes a transcription factor that plays an essential role in cell proliferation and maintenance and also in epigenetic regulation.MECOM oncogene expression correlates with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) progression
