Description
TVP23A (Trans-Golgi Network Vesicle Protein 23 Homolog A) is located on human chromosome 16p13.13. The TVP23A gene is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, fruit fly, mosquito, rice, frog, etc. 201 organisms have orthologs with human gene TVP23A. TVP23A gene encodes a membrane protein associated with the Golgi apparatus, which plays a crucial role in intracellular vesicular transport. The TVP23A protein is likely associated with the late (trans) Golgi compartments, which are involved in the delivery of secretory and membrane proteins to the endosome, lysosome or the plasma membrane. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. TVP23A is associated with some diseases, including Atrial Septal Defect 3 and Pachyonychia Congenita 1. An important paralog of this gene is TVP23B
