Description
NIFK (Nucleolar Protein Interacting With The FHA Domain Of MKI67) is a Protein Coding gene. The NIFK gene, located on 2q14.3, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, A.thaliana, rice, and frog. This gene encodes a protein that interacts with the forkhead-associated domain of the Ki-67 antigen. The encoded protein may bind RNA and may play a role in mitosis and cell cycle progression. The forkhead-associated (FHA) domain of human Ki67 interacts with the human nucleolar protein hNIFK, recognizing a 44-residue fragment, hNIFK226-269, phosphorylated at Thr234. NIFK is transactivated by c-Myc, the key regulator of ribosome biogenesis. Multiple pseudogenes exist on chromosomes 5, 10, 12, 15, and 19
