Description
The Ppp1r7 gene encoding Sds22, a regulatory subunit of protein phosphatase 1, shares the promoter region with the Paskin gene, pointing towards a common transcriptional regulation. Indeed, Sds22 colocalized with the cell types expressing PASKIN in vivo, suggesting a functional role of protein phosphatase-1 in the regulation of PASKIN autophosphorylation. PPP1R7 gene (33 kb) comprises 11 exons, but these do not coincide with the sequences encoding the leucine-rich repeats. Up to six splice variants can be generated by exon skipping and alternative polyadenylation, as revealed by expressed sequence tag database analysis, RT-PCR, and Northern blot analysis. The sds22 transcripts are expected to encode four different polypeptides. Ppp1r7 may play a central role in regulating the protein phosphatase 1 (PP1) interactome by acting as a competitive molecular "sponge" of the PP1 catalytic subunit (PP1c)
