Description
HTR2B (5-Hydroxytryptamine Receptor 2B, also known as 5-HT2B) is a Protein Coding gene. This gene encodes one of the several different receptors for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin) that belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. Besides its role as a neurotransmitter, serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5HT) regulates inflammation and tissue repair via a set of receptors (5HT(1-7)) whose pattern of expression varies among cell lineages. Reduced 5-HT2B receptor function at low or normal testosterone levels may be protective of obesity. The 5-HT2B receptor may contribute to the regulation of human glucagon and glucose homeostasis and the interplay between glucagon and insulin secretion. Diseases associated with HTR2B include Heart Valve Disease and Ocular Hypotension
