GARRE1 (Granule Associated Rac And RHOG Effector 1) is located on human chromosome 19q13.11. The GARRE1 (also known as KIAA0355) gene is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, and frog. 232 organisms have orthologs with human gene GARRE1. The GARRE1 protein is ubiquitously expressed in placenta, spleen and other tissues. GARRE1 acts as an effector of RAC1. GARRE1 associates with CCR4-NOT complex which is one of the major cellular mRNA deadenylases and is linked to various cellular processes including bulk mRNA degradation, miRNA-mediated repression, translational repression during translational initiation and general transcription regulation.
