Description
TRAK1 (Trafficking Kinesin Protein 1) is a Protein Coding gene. The TRAK1 gene, located on 3p22.1, is conserved in chimpanzee, dog, mouse, rat, chicken, fruit fly, and mosquito. TRAK1 is involved in mitochondrial motility and the regulation of endosome-to-lysosome trafficking, including endocytic trafficking of EGF-EGFR complexes and GABA-A receptors. TRAK1 is widely expressed in the heart, stomach, and other tissues. Genetic studies have identified a homozygous truncation mutation in Trak1 that causes hypertonia in mice. Moreover, elevated Trak1 protein expression is associated with several types of cancers, and variants in Trak1 are linked to childhood absence epilepsy in humans. 213 organisms have orthologs with the human gene TRAK1
