Description

MVD (Mevalonate Diphosphate Decarboxylase) is a Protein Coding gene. The MVD gene, located on 16q24.2, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, and cow, etc. MVD is an important enzyme in the mevalonate pathway catalyzing the ATP-dependent decarboxylation of mevalonate 5-diphosphate (MDP) to yield isopentenyl diphosphate (IPP) which is a ubiquitous precursor for isoprenoids and sterols. The enzyme MVD catalyzes the conversion of mevalonate pyrophosphate into isopentenyl pyrophosphate in one of the early steps in cholesterol biosynthesis. It decarboxylates and dehydrates its substrate while hydrolyzing ATP. Diseases associated with MVD include Porokeratosis 7, Multiple Types, and Porokeratosis. Among its related pathways are Transport to the Golgi and subsequent modification and Sterol Regulatory Element-Binding Proteins (SREBP) signaling
