The Ubiquitination Factor E4A gene (UBE4A) encodes for a U-box-type ubiquitin ligase, originally described as an E4 ubiquitination factor. Moreover, UBE4A and UBE4B are U-box-containing ubiquitylation enzymes and are the two human homologues of yeast UFD2 ubiquitination factor. Studies show that UBE4A may function as a putative tumor promoter in thyroid cancer. In addition, anti-UBE4A antibodies are potentially useful markers for detection and prediction of clinical activity and outcome in patients with Crohn's disease (CD)
