Description
GMPR2 (Guanosine Monophosphate Reductase 2) is a Protein Coding gene. The GMPR2 gene, located on 14q12, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, zebrafish, C.elegans, and frog. GMPR2 belongs to the IMPDH/GMPR family. This gene encodes an enzyme that catalyzes the irreversible and NADPH-dependent reductive deamination of guanosine monophosphate (GMP) to inosine monophosphate (IMP). GMPR2 is a novel human GMP reductase. The encoded protein also functions in the re-utilization of free intracellular bases and purine nucleosides. GMPR2 is widely expressed in the thyroid, kidney, and other tissues. Diseases associated with GMPR2 include Urethra Cancer. The overexpression of GMPR2 can promote the monocytic differentiation of HL-60 leukemia cells
