TMCO5A (Transmembrane And Coiled-Coil Domains 5A, also known as TMCO5) is a Protein Coding gene. The TMCO5A gene, located on 15q14, is conserved in chimpanzee, dog, mouse, and rat. Tmco5 belongs to the Tmco (Transmembrane and coiled-coil domains) gene family and has a coiled-coil domain in the N-terminal and a transmembrane domain in the C-terminal region. 2 alternatively spliced human isoforms have been reported. The mRNA for Tmco5 is expressed in the round and elongating spermatids. Diseases associated with TMCO5A include Spastic Paraplegia 11, Autosomal Recessive. An important paralog of this gene is SMCO2. 113 organisms have orthologs with the human gene TMCO5A
