Description
TSPAN5 (Tetraspanin 5) is a Protein Coding gene. The TSPAN5 gene, located on 4q23, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, C.elegans, and frog. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily, also known as the tetraspanin family. These tetraspanins directly interact with the metalloprotease ADAM10, regulate its exit from the endoplasmic reticulum and subsequent trafficking, and differentially regulate its ability to cleave various substrates and activate Notch signaling. The proteins mediate signal transduction events that play a role in the regulation of cell development, activation, growth, and motility. TSPAN5 is widely expressed in the brain, ovary, and other tissues. Diseases associated with TSPAN5 include Coffin-Siris Syndrome 3 and Autosomal Dominant Non-Syndromic Intellectual Disability
