Description
Phospholipase D1 (PLD1) is generally accepted as playing an important role in the regulation of multiple cell functions, such as cell growth, survival, differentiation, membrane trafficking, and cytoskeletal organization. PLD1-a key enzyme involved in lipid metabolism-is important for the initiation and progression of various human solid cancers. The signal transduction enzyme phospholipase D1 (PLD1) hydrolyzes phosphatidylcholine to generate the lipid second-messenger phosphatidic acid, which plays roles in disease processes such as thrombosis and cancer. PLD1 is directly and synergistically regulated by protein kinase C, Arf and Rho GTPases, and the membrane lipid phosphatidylinositol-4, 5-bisphosphate (PIP2). PLD1 also plays an important role in the regulation of neuronal differentiation of neuronal cells. Moreover, PLD1-mediated signaling molecules dynamically regulate the neuronal differentiation of neural stem cells (NSCs)
