CTBS (Di-N-acetylchitobiase; also chitobiase) is a 40 kDa lysosomal glycoprotein that belongs to glycosyl hydrolase family. It is a reducing-end glycoside hydrolase that serves to degrade asparagines-linked carbohydrates. Chitobiase (also known as CTB) is located on human chromosome 1p22.3. The CTBS protein is ubiquitously expressed in prostate, liver and other tissues. Structurally, the encoded CTBS protein is reported to be 43760 Da in mass. Hydrolyze of N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosamine (1-4)N-acetylglucosamine chitobiose core from the reducing end of the bond, requires prior cleavage by glycosylasparaginase.
