Description

NDUFA3 (NADH: Ubiquinone Oxidoreductase Subunit A3) is a Protein Coding gene. The NDUFA3 gene, located on 19q13.42, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, cow, mouse, rat, zebrafish, and frog. NDUFA3 belongs to the complex I NDUFA3 subunit family. The encoded protein is an accessory subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I), that is believed not to be involved in catalysis. Complex I functions in the transfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The immediate electron acceptor for the enzyme is believed to be ubiquinone. NDUFA3 is widely expressed in the kidney, fat, and other tissues. Diseases associated with NDUFA3 include Schizophrenia 5 and Periodontosis. Among its related pathways are GABAergic synapse and Respiratory electron transport, ATP synthesis by chemiosmotic coupling, and heat production by uncoupling proteins
