Description

HCFC2 (Host Cell Factor C2) is a Protein Coding gene. The HCFC2 gene, located on 12q23.3, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, and frog. This gene encodes one of two proteins that interact with VP16, a herpes simplex virus protein that initiates virus infection. Both the encoded protein and the original Herpes host cell factor interact with VP16 through a beta-propeller domain. HCFC2 was necessary for the transcription of a large subset of other interferon regulatory factor 2 (IRF2)-dependent interferon-regulated genes. Deleterious mutations of Hcfc2 may therefore increase susceptibility to diverse infectious diseases. Diseases associated with HCFC2 include Herpes Simplex
