FAM149B1 (Family With Sequence Similarity 149 Member B1) is located on human chromosome 10q22.2. FAM149B1 is associated with some diseases, including Joubert Syndrome 36 and Orofaciodigital Syndrome Vi. An important paralog of this gene is FAM149A. The FAM149B1 protein is ubiquitously expressed in testis, brain and other tissues. Structurally, the encoded protein is reported to be 27160 Da in mass. FAM149B1 is required for normal ciliary biology and that its deficiency results in a range of ciliopathy phenotypes in humans along the spectrum of Joubert syndrome
