Description
ZDHHC3, also known as GODZ (Golgi apparatus-specific DHHC zinc finger protein), has been shown to palmitoylate AMPA, NMDA, and GABAA receptors and hence to control their trafficking at the synapses. Besides, ZDHHC3 can palmitoylate a number of proteins involved in control of neuronal morphogenesis, such as the alpha6 integrin subunit, Galphas and Galphaq proteins, and stathmins 2 and 3. ZDHHC3 utilizes a "ping-pong" kinetic mechanism to transfer palmitate to the target protein, while no regulatory sites on the ZDHHC3 protein have yet been discovered. ZDHHC3 tyrosine residues are specific targets for FGFR1 and Src kinases. DHHC3 is upregulated in malignant and metastatic human breast cancer. Elevated expression of DHHC3 correlated with diminished patient survival in breast cancer and other human cancer types
