NSMCE1 (NSE1 Homolog, SMC5-SMC6 Complex Component) is a Protein Coding gene. The NSMCE1 gene, located on 16p12.1, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, and frog. NSMCE1 is a RING-type zinc finger-containing E3 ubiquitin ligase that assembles with melanoma antigen protein (MAGE) to catalyze the direct transfer of ubiquitin from E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme to a specific substrate. Mouse Nsmce1 gene is the homolog of non-structural maintenance of chromosomes element 1 (NSE1) that is mainly involved in the maintenance of genome integrity, DNA damage response, and DNA repair.
