FZD6 plays a pivotal role in the growth and guidance of the nail plate in humans by acting as a molecular switch between different Wnt pathways. Inherited isolated nail anomaly manifesting with onychauxis and onycholysis is a rare condition, caused by mutations in the gene FZD6, encoding membrane-bound Wnt receptor protein. The overexpression of FZD6 may play an important role in the development of Colorectal cancer (CRC).
