Description
TMEM38A (Transmembrane Protein 38A) is a Protein Coding gene. The TMEM38A gene, located on 19p13.11, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, and frog. An important paralog of this gene is TMEM38B. TMEM38A is a monovalent cation channel required for the maintenance of rapid intracellular calcium release and may act as a potassium counter-ion channel that functions in synchronization with calcium release from intracellular stores. TMEM38A is widely expressed in the brain, stomach, and other tissues. Diseases associated with TMEM38A include Hyperalphalipoproteinemia 1 and Myopathy, X-Linked, With Postural Muscle Atrophy. 236 organisms have orthologs with the human gene TMEM38A
