Description
SLC38A1 (Solute Carrier Family 38 Member 1) is a Protein Coding gene. The SLC38A1 gene, located on 12q13.11, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, and frog. SLC38A1 is an important transporter of glutamine, an intermediate in the detoxification of ammonia and the production of urea. Glutamine serves as a precursor for the synaptic transmitter, glutamate. SLC38A1 is widely expressed in the lymph node, thyroid, and other tissues. Diseases associated with SLC38A1 include Klatskin's Tumor. SLC38A1 is associated with the occurrence and progression of solid tumors. Further, glutamine transporter SLC38A1 might serve as a potential target for the development of novel therapeutic drugs in the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML)
