Description
ARHGAP family genes, such as FNBP2, SRGAP1/ARHGAP13, SRGAP2/ARHGAP14, ARHGAP4 and AHRGAP20/KIAA1391, encode GTPase activating proteins for Rho family proteins (RhoGAPs). ARHGAP21 controls the Arp2/3 complex and F-actin dynamics at the Golgi complex by regulating the activity of the small GTPase Cdc42. ARHGAP21 is recruited to the Golgi by binding to another small GTPase, ARF1. ARHGAP21 associates with many proteins and modulates several cellular functions, including actin cytoskeleton rearrangement in different tissues. ARHGAP21involves in cell-cell junction remodeling and that ARHGAP21 affects migration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) through alpha-tubulin interaction and acetylation. ARHGAP21 has been implicated in adhesion and migration of cancer cells. ARHGAP21 is a RhoGAP with increased expression in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and with a possible role in glioblastoma tumor progression
