Description
PSMG1 (Proteasome Assembly Chaperone 1) is a Protein Coding gene. The PSMG1 gene, located on 21q22.2, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, and frog. PSMG1 is a chaperone protein that promotes the assembly of the 20S proteasome as part of a heterodimer with PSMG2. The PSMG1-PSMG2 heterodimer binds to the PSMA5 and PSMA7 proteasome subunits, promotes assembly of the proteasome alpha-subunits into the heteroheptameric alpha ring, and prevents alpha ring dimerization. PSMG1 is widely expressed in the testis, thyroid, and other tissues. Diseases associated with PSMG1 include Down Syndrome and Thrombasthenia. 242 organisms have orthologs with the human gene PSMG1
