MyBioSource.com's PRDX4 Antibody is a Rabbit Polyclonal antibody. This antibody has been shown to work in applications such as: ELISA, Immunohistochemistry, and Western Blot. The PRDX4 Antibody was generated using Peroxiredoxin 4, and PRDX4 as the antigen and it reacts with Human, Mouse, and Rat.
Description
Description: PRDX4(Peroxiredoxin-4) is also named as AOE37-2, Prx-IV and belongs to the AhpC/TSA family. PRDX4 is associated with acrosome formation during rat spermatogenesis and has a protective role in the male reproductive tract, because the phenotype of mice lacking this isoform includes testicular atrophy and increased sperm DNA damage(PMID:20864641). It is initially synthesized as a membrane-binding 31-kDa protein and processed into a 27-kDa secretory form and is discarded with the residual bodies(PMID:19208552). PRDX4 is a pentamer of dimers(PMID:23025503). This antibody is speific to PRDX4.
Function: Thiol-specific peroxidase that catalyzes the reduction of hydrogen peroxide and organic hydroperoxides to water and alcohols, respectively. Plays a role in cell protection against oxidative stress by detoxifying peroxides and as sensor of hydrogen peroxide-mediated signaling events. Regulates the activation of NF-kappa-B in the cytosol by a modulation of I-kappa-B-alpha phosphorylation.
Subunit Structure: Homodimer; disulfide-linked, upon oxidation (PubMed:9388242). 5 homodimers assemble to form a ring-like decamer (PubMed:21994946). Can form heterodimers with PRDX1 (PubMed:9388242).
Post-translational Modifications: The enzyme can be inactivated by further oxidation of the cysteine sulfenic acid (C(P)-SOH) to sulphinic acid (C(P)-SO2H) and sulphonic acid (C(P)-SO3H) instead of its condensation to a disulfide bond.
Similarity: Belongs to the peroxiredoxin family. AhpC/Prx1 subfamily
