The protein of interest is cloned into these expression vectors producing a GST-fusion protein. The GST-tag allows fusion proteins to be efficiently purified from bacterial. yeast. mammalian or insect cell lysates utilizing an affinity matrix containing glutathione. Elution of the purified protein is accomplished under mild. nondenaturing conditions. The GST fusion adds a 26 kDa tag to a recombinant protein. which can be removed when an endopeptidase cleavage site sequence is incorporated between the tag and the protein.
