Enterokinase

Enterokinase, also called enteropeptidase, is a serine protease involved in digestion. It catalyzes the conversion of trypsonigen into its active form of typsin, which begins the activation of pancreatic digestive enzymes. In humans, it is produced in the duodenum. A disulfide-linked heterodimer in most species, it consists of a heavy chain of 82–140 kDa and a light chain of 35–62 kDa. Heterotrimeric structures have been reported for human and porcine enterokinase. Porcine enterokinase is a specific protease, which cleaves after the lysine at its recognition site. The highly specific nature of enterokinases make them useful for protein studies and for cleaving protein tags. Visit the supplier page for more enzme information.
