Glucose oxidase is an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of beta-D-glucose to gluconic acid. An oxidoreductase, it carries out the reaction using molecular oxygen to form hydrogen peroxide and D-glucono-delta-lactone. Glucose oxidase from Aspergillus niger is a dimer, with 2 equal subunits, each with a molecular mass of 80 kDa. Glucose oxidase can be to determine the amount of free D-glucose in samples such as human serum.
