DNase II

DNase II, also known as deoxyribonuclease II, is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of phosphodiester bonds in DNA. An endonuclease with an optimal pH at 4.5-5 in vitro and a molecular weight of 38 kDa, it can act on both native and denatured DNA, yielding products with 3'-phosphates and 5'-hydroxyl ends. DNase II can usually be found in lysosomes, where it helps in degrading DNA during apoptosis and erythropoiesis. DNase is believed to have three phases of action: creating multiple nicks in the phosphodiester backbone of DNA, production of acid-soluble nucleotides, and reduction of oligonucleotides. DNase II has been used in molecular biology as a component of digestion mixes. Visit the supplier page for more enzyme information.
