Water

Water Water is required for many processes and applications in the laboratory. Depending on the intended use, varying types and grades of water should be considered. Deionized water is typical for everyday use in labs, such as for cleaning equipment and for routine non-analytical solutions. Sterile, cell culture grade water is ideal for growing cells, as it is free of toxins and contaminating microorganisms. Water destined for molecular biology include nuclease-free water and diethyl pyrocarbonate (DEPC)-treated water, which ensure DNA and RNA will not be degraded by the presence of enzymes. HPLC and LC-MS grade water are recommended for analytical chromatography. Others, such as ATP-free water, are ideal for biochemical assays.
