Background: Complement factor D (CFD), also called ADIPSIN or FACTOR D, is a protein which in humans is encoded by the CFD gene. The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the trypsin family of peptidases. It is mapped to 19p13.3. The encoded protein is a component of the alternative complement pathway which is best known for its role in humoral suppression of infectious agents. This protein is also a serine protease that is secreted by adipocytes into the bloodstream. Finally, the encoded protein has a high level of expression in fat, suggesting a role for adipose tissue in immune system biology. What's more, Factor D is a serine protease that stimulates glucose transport for triglyceride accumulation in fats cells and inhibits lipolysis.
Principle of the Assay: The Human Adipsin ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Human Adipsin in Cell Culture Supernatants, Serum, Plasma, Urine. This assay employs an antibody specific for Human Adipsin coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and Adipsin present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Human Adipsin antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of Adipsin bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm
