Description

In mice, sC5b-9 has a range of complex and diverse functions, including direct cytotoxic effects, regulating inflammation, cell signaling, tissue protection, and immunoregulation. In a mouse model induced by LPS, levels of sC5b-9 rise rapidly following LPS injection, peaking at 4 hours before declining within 8 hours. This pattern suggests that sC5b-9 plays a significant role in acute inflammatory responses, particularly regarding LPS-induced IL-1β release. Additionally, sC5b-9 can transform into a water-soluble form by binding to plasma proteins such as fibrinogen, which prevents aggregation and allows it to participate in various physiological or pathological processes. Furthermore, in certain cases, sC5b-9 may act as a signaling protein complex, promoting cytokine production and causing vascular leakage
