Catalase is a common enzyme found in nearly all living organisms exposed to oxygen, including bacteria, plants, and animals. It catalyzes the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. In rabbits, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase are two essential antioxidant mechanisms that collaborate to minimize free radical damage. It was shown that significant catalase activity was present in the liver of rabbits, which may be related to its detoxification and antioxidant functions. In addition, catalase activity was detected in the blood of rabbits, suggesting that it is involved in antioxidant defense on a systemic scale
