Description
Stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1), also referred to as C-X-C motif chemokine 12 (CXCL12), is widely expressed in numerous tissues and cell types. The small cytokines, SDF-1 alpha and SDF-1 beta, are part of the chemokine family, which are responsible for activating leukocytes and are frequently triggered by proinflammatory stimuli like lipopolysaccharide, TNF, or IL-1. Injecting SDF-1 into the joint cavity can induce an osteoarthritis model in rabbit knees. The functions of SDF-1 in rabbits include regulation of hematopoiesis and neurodevelopment, promotion of angiogenesis and bone regeneration, and involvement in the process of tumor metastasis
