Syntaxin-2 is crucial for epithelial morphogenesis and may facilitate Ca2±regulated exocytosis during the acrosomal reaction in sperm. In mice, its primary role is in promoting tumor development, especially in breast and liver cancers, and it might have a subsidiary role in certain secretory processes. Syntaxin-2 is significantly expressed in various tumors and is closely linked to cancer progression. For instance, in breast cancer, Syntaxin-2 overexpression can enhance tumor formation and growth, potentially by activating signaling pathways that increase the expression of C/EBPβ, keratin-14, matrix metalloproteinase-3, and β-catenin. Additionally, Syntaxin-2 has been observed to accelerate liver cancer progression by activating the focal adhesion kinase/matrix metalloproteinase-9 (FAK/MMP-9) signaling pathway.
