Description

In rabbits, the MBP gene encodes Myelin Basic Protein, which, along with PLP, forms the most abundant protein component of the myelin membrane in the central nervous system (CNS). It is essential for both the formation and stabilization of this compact, multilayered bilayer structure. Each splice variant and charge isomer of Myelin Basic Protein may possess specialized functions, contributing to the assembly of an optimized and biochemically functional myelin membrane. In a model of heart failure established in rabbits, MBP levels were decreased in some cases. This suggests that MBP may be associated with the onset or progression of heart failure
