Description

Vitronectin is a cell adhesion and spreading factor present in serum and tissues, known for interacting with glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans. Recognized by certain integrin family members, it functions as a cell-to-substrate adhesion molecule and acts as an inhibitor of the membrane-damaging effects of the terminal cytolytic complement pathway. In mice, vitronectin performs a variety of biological functions, including promoting cell adhesion, participating in pathological skin processes, regulating inflammatory and immune responses, and playing a role in coagulation and complement pathways
