Description

Kit ligand is the binding partner for the receptor-type protein-tyrosine kinase KIT. It is crucial for regulating cell survival and proliferation, hematopoiesis, stem cell maintenance, gametogenesis, mast cell development, migration, function, and melanogenesis. The interaction between KITLG/SCF and KIT can trigger various signaling pathways, promoting the phosphorylation of PIK3R1, the regulatory subunit of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, leading to the activation of the kinase AKT1. Additionally, KITLG/SCF and KIT convey signals through GRB2 and activate RAS, RAF1, and the MAP kinases MAPK1/ERK2 and/or MAPK3/ERK1. In mice, kit ligands have broad and diverse functions across different biological processes, including neural development, hematopoiesis, germ cell development, tissue repair, and skin and hair development. They play a vital role through their interaction with c-Kit receptors and may be considered potential therapeutic targets in certain pathological conditions, such as cancer
