In rabbits, the IGF2 gene encodes Insulin-like growth factor 2. IGF-2 is one of three protein hormones that are structurally similar to insulin. The function of IGF2 (insulin-like growth factor 2) in rabbits is primarily related to its role in skeletal muscle development, growth rate, feed efficiency, and fat deposition. Within rabbit blastocysts, embryonic IGF1 and IGF2 are particularly prominent in the embryoblast (ICM). In blastocysts, IGF and insulin signaling occurs through the classical pathway, involving the activation of Erk1/2 and Akt kinases
