Description
Deoxynivalenol (DON), also known as vomitin, is a trichothecene. In general, it has higher concentrations in barley, wheat, corn, and oats, but lower concentrations in rye, sorghum, and rice. Due to their high cytotoxicity and immunosuppressive properties, they may cause kidney problems. The European Union (EU) has set the maximum residue limit (MRL) of DON in unprocessed wheat to 1250ppb, and China and the U.S. FDA has set the maximum residue limit (MRL) of DON in corn and corn flour to 1000ppb
