Chloramphenicol is a broad spectrum antibiotic which is frequently employed in animal production for its excellent antibacterial and pharmacokinetic properties. However, in humans, it leads to hematotoxic side effects, especially induced aplastic anemia. The EU prohibits the use of CAP as a veterinary drug for food animals, does not set the maximum residue limit (MRL), and has set the minimum required performance limit (MRPL) to 0.3ppb
