Urine consists primarily of water, but also contains an assortment of inorganic salts and organic compounds, including proteins, hormones, and a wide range of metabolites. As a sterile, non-invasive biological fluid, urine is becoming a favored sample type for biomarker research. Not only is it being used to detect kidney disease, but scientists have begun to identify urine cancer biomarkers that can be used for early screening and monitoring
